A cluster of three COVID-19 cases on the CSU Bakersfield campus was reported to the university community on Oct. 26.

The report came via email from the CSUB Chief of Police Marty Williamson.

The three individuals were on campus from Oct. 23 through Oct. 26. The individuals that were in close contact with the cluster of cases have been notified, according to the campus-wide email. 

CSUB does not reveal possible identifying information about the cases, such as the location of the individuals affected per the Clery guidelines. 

“Any area where an infected person may have been is assessed and if needed the area is sanitized following prescribed guidelines,” wrote Williamson in an email to The Runner.

According to Williamson, CSUB has worked closely with Kern County Public Health.

“When needed, our plans have been activated to resolve and/or mitigate any issues,” Williamson wrote.

This cluster of cases brings the total CSUB related COVID-19 cases to 33, according to the CSUB website.

There have been six reported cases of the virus from Oct. 20 to Oct. 27.

Of the reported cases, 25 have been off-campus and eight have been on-campus. 

 Students, faculty, and staff that will be present on campus are required to wear face-coverings, according to a statement released by CSUB President Lynnette Zelezny on the CSUB website.

In addition, in order to attend any on-campus activities, all students, faculty, and staff are required to complete training on COVID-19 protocols. CSUB employees must conduct a self-screening at home each day before coming to work.

“Given the ever-changing nature of the pandemic, we will continue to review and make adjustments to our campus plans, as necessary. We also are prepared for the possibility that all courses may need to transition to virtual instruction at any point during the fall semester,” wrote Zelezny.

CSUB served as a free COVID-19 testing site on Oct. 28 and will be available to administer tests today, Oct. 29.
