Whether it is served hot or cold, it always hits the spot. Prepare this creamy and savory pastry for a potluck or even just to surprise someone with breakfast in bed!

Ensure the meat is entirely cooked before adding the cream cheese; this will help prevent food-borne illnesses. (Erin Dailey)

Yields: About six servings

Cook time: Approximately one hour

Ingredients:

2 packages of Pillsbury’s croissant dough

1 pound of breakfast sausage

1 pound of cream cheese

Directions:

Begin by preheat the oven to 375 degrees. While the oven preheats, spray a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish with a nonstick cooking spray.

Open a roll of crescent dough, then spread it out evenly across the bottom of the baking dish. Squish and flatten the dough so there is not holes at the bottom of the dish, creating the bottom layer of the pastry.

The sausage and cream cheese should be as thoroughly mixed together as possible. (Erin Dailey)

Once the bottom layer of the pastry is prepared, add the sausage to a skillet. Cook and brown the sausage in a pan; since sausage is already greasy, additional oil should not be necessary.

After the meat is cooked thoroughly, add the block of cream cheese to the skillet. Continue to mix the cream cheese so that it is disperses and melts evenly.

Pour the melted sausage and cream cheese mixture in the glass baking dish. Be sure to spread the mixture evenly across the dish; it should entirely cover the bottom layer of pastry dough.

When the filling has been successfully added, spread the second package of croissant dough evenly over the sausage mixture. Be sure not to leave any gaps exposed, as this will be the top of the pastry.

Once the dish is ready to go in the oven, allow it to cook for 30-40 minutes, or until the top of the pastry is golden brown.

Once the pastry has cooled to the desired temperature, it is ready to serve and enjoy!
