Members of the Associated Students, Inc. had their weekly meeting Feb. 7, during which several important announcements were made, starting with information regarding the disbursement of grant money to the university, discussion and proposals of several future projects to be funded by the grants, and voting for a new ASI Director of Diversity.  

  Announcements made on behalf of President Lynnette Zelezny regarded the disbursement of grant money to the school. CSU Bakersfield applied for 74 grants and secured most of them. The money will be used for housing, food and basic needs of students. 

 The largest project announced the construction of a demonstration kitchen which will be used to showcase how items from the Food Pantry and produce harvested from the CSUB Edible Garden can be prepared into meals will cost $270,000 to complete. Once built, the kitchen will also be open for students to cook their own food.  

  CSUB’s Counseling Center will be granted $75,000 which will be used for expanded counseling services and improvements to their website, including interactive stress management tools. Funds will also be used to modernize and refurbish the environment of the counseling office itself. No dates are set for the starting of this new project since they are relatively new.  

  The board members also voted for a new ASI Director of Diversity, and their decision will be announced next week. 

  Regarding school activities, one of the events that are soon to come is an active shooter training on Feb. 14 from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m.  

  “Anyone is welcome to attend,” Chief of Justice said. However, students wishing to participate will need permission, since the training is intended primarily for staff.  

  Another event coming soon is the president’s next Runner Walk n’ Talk, which will be taking place on Feb. 25 from 3 to 4 p.m. starting at President Zelezny’s office.
