Bakersfield celebrates LGBTQ+

California State University, Bakersfield and the Bakersfield community celebrated Pride Week from Oct. 5 to Oct. 12, 2019. Many events and activities happened around town, including a resource fair, pride march, and festival. On the evening of Oct. 8, a march for equality took place near the university in-part of the pride celebrations. On Oct. 12, 2019, Bakersfield LGBTQ hosted the 2019 Retro Pride at Stramler Park from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Many festival goers were able to experience the diversity of the Bakersfield Community through the drag races being held and the array of entertainment offered like games, raffles and jumpers.
