Dixie Salazar is not only a poet. She is an artist, a photographer, and an activist for the homeless.  Salazar, coming from Fresno, will be reading her poetry Wednesday, March 27, in the Dezember Reading Room of the Walter Steirn Library at 7 p.m.

Much of her poetry centers around the theme of the needy and bringing awareness to the issues of homelessness. As well, her photography and artwork, which is on display at Silva/Salazar Studios, often depict scenes of homelessness.  She currently has five books including her most recent collection, “Voice of the Wind.”

As an activist, Salazar serves as a board member for the Fresno Eco Village project; This project is designed to help homeless not only have a safe place to live, but attain the tools necessary to get off the streets permanently, such as jobs, health care, and education.

Salazar’s poetry reading will be a part of the California Writers Series, sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society, the department of English, the School of Arts & Humanities and the Walter W. Stiern Library.
