On Sunday Oct. 16, CSUB students lined up at the Valley Plaza Mall ready to save on professional attire at the first CSUB and J.C. Penney Suit Up Event.

J.C. Penney offered an additional 40 percent off name brand apparel like Worthington and Liz Claiborne, along with shoes and accessories to complete the look.

Employer Relations Coordinator at the Career Center, Jill Lackey said, “This is in preparation for our career fair, we do have our career expo on Wednesday, Oct. 24, and that’s when the employers are going to come in. This is really kind of to help students dress to prepare for the career expo and any interviews that are going to come in after that,” said Lackey.

And CSUB student Morgan Kayser said she hopes to find clothing for any future interviews.

“I came to today’s event because I needed interview clothes, because I had an interview last week and I wasn’t properly dressed. I felt very underdressed in comparison to everyone else in the area,” said Kayser.

This was a great opportunity for students looking for employment.

Even student who are already employed took advantaged of the discounts like Psychology major, Alexis Camp.

“I actually have a job but it’s just always nice to have that stock in your closet, and this was a great event to take advantage of for that,” said Camp.

At the end of the night, there were over 250 CSUB participants, a number Lackey said the Career Center hopes to grow as the relationship with J.C. Penney progresses.

For those students who missed Sunday’s event, the campus career center hopes to continue this event annually and possibly biannually.
