The Center for Disease Control, CDC, has had a plan of action posted on it’s website for a possible global outbreak since 2011. California State University, Bakersfield is embarrassingly underprepared for this potential massive disaster. This global event would be so devastating, it would be impossible to not notice the disease. Everyone walking around would be the walking dead. Yes, I am talking about the zombie apocalypse.
For those of you not familiar with the zombie apocalypse, the CDC says that the disease,
“…created by an infectious virus, which is passed on via bites and contact with bodily fluids.”
The CDC also warns about possible radiation poisoning from downed satellites being a known cause for the disease. From here, those who are bitten are turned into the walking, and quite hungry, dead.
Other schools in California have already heeded the CDC’s warnings. For instance, at University California of Davis they have added “Zombie Preparedness: 101” to their wall postings of the UCD Emergency Response Guide.
On the UCD Emergency Response Guide is a checklist for materials to have prepared in case of the apocalypse. These items include many of the basics for any survival guide. From keeping stores of water, medications, food, means of communication to ways of staying informed, who to call and having a prepared plan. You can find their zombie preparedness guide online, but ours does not even exist.
Davis, Calif, has used their wiki site, a website full of local information and events run mostly by the most active posters, to create a planned guide of action and escape for the entire town of Davis. This plan is no longer just a general plan of preparedness, but one of what to do when you get caught anywhere in the city with zombies. This plan will include what places are safe, full of food, and good habitats for a post-zombie apocalypse world.A plan such as this for Bakersfield would greatly benefit our townspeople in case of such an outbreak. We would easily be able to organize, come together as a community and beat the crap out of the living dead. I think, as a city, this is something we could do very well together. Also, having a wiki site for our city or even our college would greatly increase the amount of things we can do together as a community.
