Milo Yiannopoulos has the right to freely express himself. The Runner editorial board believes that CSUB should allow Yiannopoulos to speak on campus, regardless of how controversial he portrays himself.
In the United States, freedom of expression is an American right. Just as along as the rules are followed and not ignored. In this case those rules are campus polices.
On Sept. 18, therunneronline.com reported the possibility of Milo Yiannopoulos speaking on campus. He is an ex-Breitbart editor and has been viewed as controversial. His past public speaking events at universities have drawn protests.
Some CSU Bakersfield students questioned whether it is a good decision that he comes to campus. Due to his controversial statements.
Recently, freedom of expression has become one side against the other.
Words can be a very powerful enough to accomplish more than we can imagine.
Expression is important to us as Americans because without it there would be no progression in society. There would be no collaboration.
As Americans, we pride ourselves with innovation. Many technological advancesmuch wouldn’t be possible if we weren’t able to express our ideas .
On Friday, Sept. 22 at a rally in Alabama, Trump said, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘get that son of a bitch off the field now. Out. He’s fired!”
In retaliation, with the freedom to express themselves, NFL players throughout the league on Sunday, Sept. 24 banded together to defy President Trump by kneeling and linking arms in unison.
Although Yiannopoulos is viewed by some as controversial speaker, he does bring a different point of view and has every right to express it.
