CSU Bakersfield baseball was able to score their first sweep of the season beating Chicago State. The Roadrunners have now won six consecutive games helping their winning percentage in efforts to get a bid into the Western Athletic Conference tournament which is set to start May 25.
“It’s been a tough year,” said Head coach Bob Macaluso “ but these last two weeks have been our best two weeks, and we always want to end on a positive note.”
CSU Bakersfield (15-34, 9-14) will continue their road to the WAC tournament with a non-conference game against Cal Poly on May 17, then they will continue in conference play with their last WAC series against North Dakota that will determine their fate.
Coach Macaluso explains how important next week is for them and how the team needs to take the same approach that they did in this series with Chicago State into their last series with North Dakota on May 19-21.
Red shirt Junior outfielder Dustin Frailey was able to get his 24 multi-hit game of the 2016 season.
Red shirt senior Pitcher AJ Monarrez will rest during the week before the North Dakota series after coming out of Sunday’s game at the top of the second due to undisclosed arm injury.

MVP
Junior second baseman David Metzgar went three for five and getting five RBIs against Chicago States. Metzgar is now the ninth Roadrunner to have at least five RBIs in a game.
Highlights
Bottom of the ninth inning with two outs Frailey was able to triple to the rights side, next to bat Junior third baseman Mahlik Jones was hit by the pitch. With runners at first and third Metzgar hit a RBI walk off single to bring in Frailey to win the game 6-5.
May 14
CSUB 14, Chicago State 3
MVP
Four CSUB players scored a recorded of two RBIs in the game against Chicago State. Junior Cody White, Mahlik Jones, Senior Chance Gusbeth, and Junior Ryan Grotjohn all score two RBIs to bring the 10 run rule end the game in the seventh inning.
Highlights
At the bottom of the sixth inning the Roadrunners were able to to bring a total of 13 batters to the batting box. The Roadrunners scored seven in the sixth with Gusbeth and Grotjohn bring in four of the runs.

MVP
Mahlik Jones went 2-4 brining in 2 RBIs to help the Roadrunners take the sweep against Chicago State.
Highlights
With a double from Grotjohn in the bottom of the fifth Frailey hit a RBI triple bringing. Next batter up Jones hit and RBI single to bring the score to 3-1.
