Two males in their early 20s were pulled over and searched by University Police Department on Tuesday, May 10 for a traffic violation and possession of approximately one ounce of marijuana.
The two offenders were driving a yellow Dodge Neon. They were stopped by police officers at the intersection of Kroll Way and Don Hart East Drive.
According to officer Scott Jelletich, officer Freddie Reyes observed the car parked illegally on the side of the road by a sign that read “no parking.”
When Reyes approached the car, he smelled marijuana.
“They gave [the marijuana up] voluntarily,” said Jelletich.
The car was driven and parked in the nearest parking space by officer Jelletich.
Both offenders were in the car and parked illegally in order to have one of them make it to class on time. The other man was going to drive off with the car, but that is when officer Reyes arrived and stopped him.
The two men were not arrested, but they were cited for different infractions. One of the men, a 21-year-old, was cited for driving with a suspended license and the second man, a 22-year-old, was cited for a suspended license and for possession of marijuana without a Medical Marijuana License.
“Don’t be lazy, don’t cheat yourself, and park in the parking lot,” said one of the perpetrators as his statement.
