The 44th annual CSU Bakersfield Athletics Spring BBQ will be on Thursday, May 12 and gives the people of Bakersfield a chance to see the CSUB campus and have a steak or teriyaki chicken dinner along with a Marie Callender’s pie.
Pre-sale tickets for this event are priced at $30 each, and CSUB students will be able to purchase a $15 discounted ticket at the cashier’s office before the event. Gate prices are $35 general admission and $18 for CSUB students. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served until 9:00 p.m.
“It’s an opportunity to always bring people to campus to experience really what we like to call the social event of the year,” said CSUB Assistant Athletics Director for Communications Corey Costelloe. “It’s just a great social gathering of people in Bakersfield and has become something that’s really a tradition over the last now 44 years. This is one of the few big social events we still do.”
All of the proceeds from the Spring BBQ will benefit the Roadrunner Scholarship Fund, which benefits the education of over 300 Roadrunner student-athletes.
“The CSUB Spring BBQ is an event where some attendees remark it is the first time they have seen the campus,“ said Assistant Athletics Director for Special Events Mark Mayes. “By attending this event and other events on campus, the people of Kern County can see some of the great things our campus has to offer.”
The food will be prepared by head chefs Gary and Adam Icardo, and entertainment will be provided by two bands, the Truxtun Mile and Foster Campbell and Friends. There will also be beer and wine served at the event.
“Also featured will be fun activities including a pitching contest where contestants compete for L.A. Dodgers tickets and also test their skill shooting hoops,” said Mayes
The men’s basketball Western Athletic Conference Trophy will be on display for attendees to see and take pictures with. Also, the men’s basketball team will make an appearance as well.
