A CSU Bakersfield student was struck by a vehicle on April 2 in northwest Bakersfield in the 3200 block of Haley Street. Jason Quinn Kelly, 18, died on the scene.

Kelly was a sophomore, confirmed by CSUB enrollment records. He was a double major in biology and English.

The collision happened approximately at 8:50 p.m. that night according to the Bakersfield Police Department, while Kelly was walking on the side of the road.

Kelly was a candidate involved with the CSUB homecoming court for the past two years.

President Lynnette Zelezny said in a letter to the campus community that there are plans to hold a memorial service on campus. Information on the memorial service is still being determined. Zelezny said, however, that the CSUB flag will fly at half-staff the day of the service.
